still going strong

Posted by thebipolarcat on 2008.06.22 at 13:22
I was really surprised (and happy) to see this comm is still going. I haven't used Lj in a long time, and on a whim logged in to see if anyone was still using this, or if I could possibly get in touch with anyone.

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in MA having its own website, using a forum. I'm considering setting up my own rping domain and would like to have MA a part of it. Let me know what you think!

How do you mean by 'rping domain'? A domain that people can host their games on, or one that you'll be hosting your own game on?

I'm happy with this community on LJ because it's easy to keep up with via friends list; I don't know if I'd visit or comment on a forum as often unless there was other impetus to visit in the first place (as in, RP boards and activity to check up on!)

Well, I want to host my own blog there, as well as a couple of games that I've been wanting to get started forever. I figured since a lot of people that used to be in this comm may not use Lj anymore, and neither do I, having it on a domain would make things easier. You're more than welcome to join the games. (:

I'd definitely be interested.

Wow, I haven't talked to you in forever. How are you? Are you still using Lj?

I'm good! And yeah, I'm still using LJ. I ended up going friends only because of random stupid drama, but I still update constantly.

>.> You'll have to forgive me if I don't remember QUITE who you are. I recognize your LJ name, just not necessarily how I know you. Possibly from NaNo? o.o

Definitely NaNo. (:

Aaah, okay. XD

Can I make a mini suggestion about the advice forum? I don't currently run any games at the moment that are active, but is there a possibility of there being a section on the board for giving advice to mods who run non-RPing (but still related to writing) boards? I have a board for writers that I would love to be able to talk and ask for advice about, which is why I ask.

That's actually a really good idea. It could possibly be a subsection.

I've been really busy lately, but I may have something in the works for actually getting this up and running. I have the domain, lol -- my blog is at perpetualsmile.net. I just haven't had the time for rping.

I will definitely make an official post here if something comes of this.

I would be willing to try and help out with it if you need someone to help, like setting the forum up and all that. I love setting boards up. I don't have a domain (nor the skills to really have one), otherwise I'd probably have done something along the lines of what you're talking about a long time ago, because I would have loved having a place to go to for advice. And I would have definitely loved having it recently. I had to post to bad_rpers_suck, which thankfully didn't get to be too bad like it has in the past and people were all in agreement and said the same thing, basically.

It's not so much setting it up as promotional stuff that I would need help with. Setting it up would take maybe an hour at the most; it installs in seconds with Fantastico (<3) and then it would be a matter of setting up the forums and copy/pasting rules and such.

Are you a graphic artist? I definitely wouldn't have time to make a header or anything.

I could advertise it here and there- I know of a few RP directory boards I could submit it to and such, and I definitely know some role players who would probably benefit from a board for moderator advice.

Unfortunately, no, not really. I make icons, but outside of the rare good banner, I'm not really good at making anything else. :| I...yeah. I wouldn't even be able to promise trying to make a header, because I know it would turn out badly. :|

Like I said, I don't mind helping with setting up the forums and such if you needed the help. I love playing around with that sort of stuff. I just can't help much in the graphics department. x.x

Any help is good help, and I would definitely need the promotional help!

I can help with promotional stuff, then, and probably some avatars.

What are some sections you're planning on having on the board? Would maybe a mini site directory be possible, where people submit their RP (and non-RP) sites on the board? Oooh, and maybe an affiliates section? And...a section for looking for staff? :D

Sorry, I have a lot of ideas for this sort of thing. XD
thebipolarcat at 2008-10-03 21:44 (UTC) (Link)

(Good, 'cause I have hardly any ideas!)

Those sound great. Why don't you email me (elizawhat@gmail.com) and we can discuss this further? I've already set up a board!

Just sent you an email. ^_^ It'll be from AWritersFantasy@gmail.com.

I'm sure we could also use some avatars!

Maybe, in that case, I should leave this community up so that Ljers can still use it. I wouldn't bother signing in though, so it would be left as-is.

If I'm going to keep Modly Advice going, I'm definitely moving it to forum format. Someone just recently contacted me regarding the IJ branch, so I am hoping to get moving on having a Modly Advice forum very soon!

I find forums much easier to read than LJ communities and would definitely post more on a forum. :)
thebipolarcat at 2008-07-13 01:03 (UTC) (Link)

Before I discovered and started using Lj, I used nothing but forums. Then once I got into Lj I stopped using forums unless absolutely necessary and used nothing but Lj. Now that I'm weaned off Lj, I use nothing but forums and Wordpress. I make no sense. :D

I will post here again once I get the forum set up (:
